Lisa and Jim at Temple of A'ke in the Yucatan, Mexico 2008
About Us - Lisa and Jim Papp
Part 1 ~ Lisa Papp, August 2006 30 years ago, Jim and I met while attending the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. We became best friends, fell in love and, a few years later, got married.
Over the years, in any relationship or family, there are always many highs and, hopefully, just a few lows. Through it all, especially as you grow older, you hope to have your health. Maybe you take good health for granted until you don't feel well...
My passion in working with Pharmanex, helping to educate others about good health, and partnering with other health and wellness providers comes after experiencing years of failing health.
Over the years, after visiting many different health providers (traditional, holistic, naturopathic, alternative and "very alternative") certain health conditions were diagnosed and treated but the diagnoses for others were much more illusive. I experienced years of feeling ill with severe dizziness and vertigo every day, neck and lower back pain, numbness in my right hand and fingers, extremely low energy and weakness, and the inability to concentrate, think clearly or function in many ways. I wasn't sleeping well and had numerous other symptoms. I also had many years of challenges related to a genetic chemical imbalance and the symptoms associated with that "disorder". I knew my neck and back pain and other symptoms were the cummulative effect as a result of a fall and head injury as a child, a couple of car accidents, and numerous falls while skiing.
Eventually, I couldn't hold down a job working for someone else much less work on my NuSkin/Pharmanex business. Simply going to the grocery store was a major effort. I was in my mid- to late 30s and I felt horribly sick. I felt depressed about feeling so ill. I was very frustrated and depressed about not getting the answers and help that I needed. I realized that I had to take responsibility for my healing and good health.
Throughout my journey back to good health, there was one amazingly helpful constant..use of Pharmanex's excellent nutritional products including LifePak, the Marine Omega fish oils, the Detox formula and Reishi mushroom supplement.
Part 2 ~ Lisa Papp, March 2007 I have been fortunate to always attract the "right" information, and the people and health professionals who can best help me. Some of these people and resources are listed on our still-in-process "Links to Websites, People...We Love" page.
Several years ago, Jim's job allowed us the great benefit of living in sunny Southern California for part of the year. What a joyous thing to be in a place with so much sun and warm weather through the winter! Seattle and the Northwest are great places too but the long, cold, wet, grey winters were too depressing for me. So, I discovered I needed more sun and the good SoCal weather made it much easier to get outside and exercise; swimming laps in a lovely, heated outdoor pool January through April, walking on the beach, hiking in Joshua Tree National Park...fabulous!
While in SoCal, I was referred to an Upper Cervical Chiropractor (which may also be presented as Palmer or Blair Techniques). The doctor explained his holistic approach to working with patients. I had to participate in my treatment too; getting good nutrition and good sleep, exercising, having a good spiritual base, being relaxed rather than stressed out. I loved that the doctor talked about the importance of all of these things.
Once the X-rays and other diagnostic tests were done, it was clear that my atlas was way out of alignment and my nerves and spinal column were being pinched. Who knows if that happened as a result of skiing falls, car accidents, or, most likely, the fall on my head and fractured skull I experienced as an infant, or a combination of the above. I started treatment in January 2005 and I feel much better. I don't have the daily dizziness and vertigo, numbness or back pain and I can think clearly. I can live my life and do my work at a much higher-functioning and more energetic level.
Part 3 ~ Lisa Papp, May 2007 BUT...I'm not 100%. And I haven't been "holding" my atlas adjustments very long; sometimes only a week or two. And, so, I've started to get second and third opinions. I've asked alot of questions re: why I haven't been holding my adjustments and both the Chiropractor in California and the Seattle Upper Cervical Chiropractor that I have been seeing have wondered the same thing. I asked for new x-rays and I have had to ask for a re-review of the original x-rays...once again, I have had to take charge of my healing and treatment. I've learned that even doctors who practice the same type of Chiropractic treatment may not agree fully on a diagnosis. Or, as one doctor's suggested, perhaps my atlas mis-alignment is just different now and will respond better to a different type of adjustment.
I've also learned that Chiropractic adjustments work best in conjunction with massage, other body or energy work such as craniosacral massage therapy or, my favorite these days, acupuncture and Tui-Na Chinese therapeutic massage. The scar tissue, energy blockages, and tightness in muscles, ligaments, nerves and cells have to be released. Thank you to Acupuncturist Tyler Martin in Seattle for the great help from his treatments and Tui-Na.
Part 4 ~ Lisa Papp, September 2007 We moved north of Seattle to Bellingham, WA last month. We've visited here many times over the years and have family and friends here. Jim, T.J. the Cat and I are definitely enjoying the mellower, quieter pace here. I have to find new health practitioners to work with... ~ to be continued
