Once upon a time there lived a boy. When the boy was young he
wanted to fly. He spent countless hours making paper
airplanes and drawing planes and rocket ships. On a family
trip when he was six, he drew a picture in his travel notebook
of the sun with some stars and planets. The caption read "We
Want to Go to Space".
Eventually the boy left home and went to college where he
learned many things. He was also tempted by many ways and
began to question his path. He decided it was not his destiny
to grow up and design airplanes and rockets, but a part of him
still yearned to soar, to fly free above the Earth and what he
knew.
The boy met a very nice girl and they became the best of
friends. Still he felt an urge to search beyond. He would
often travel within to places deep in his mind and in his
heart that were new and exciting. With each trip the boy
would travel farther and farther, until one day when he went
really far to the most exhilarating place he had ever been.
Searching for the meaning of his life, the boy came to the
verge of what he was seeking. Suddenly he was terrified to
realize he had no idea where he was or how he would return
home. He was lost, alone, and scared, afloat on an ocean of
fears and fantasies. One moment was a smooth glassy calm and
then wave upon wave crashed down in the darkness upon him.
It seemed that the end of his life had come. The only hope the
boy had - the only reason at all to stay alive - was the love
he felt for his girl back home, and the love he knew she felt
for him. In his vision he saw clearly how love can overcome
anything, even the greatest fear. All he wanted now was to
make it home.
The boy found himself singing a song - a song of hope, of love
and compassion. The more he sang the better he felt. He
remembered that his entire fantastic voyage of discovery had
happened inside himself. He had journeyed to find the heart
within his heart. He was on his way home.
The boy arrived home and did many things. He and his dear
soulmate were married. He kept singing and made up rock
songs. He collected and polished rocks. He painted things to
look like rock. He visited the mountains to be with the trees
and rocks, and was happy to be on the Earth. His wife named
him Rock Boy.
